I like the perfumed blue flower and wet earth tones in the 2016 Tenuta Frescobaldi di Castiglioni. The blend is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with smaller parts Cabernet Franc and Sangiovese. The fruit comes from the family's Tenuta Castiglioni in the township of Montespertoli. This is a medium to full-bodied red that shows dark consistency with aromas of plum, blackberry and Morello cherry. The wine is beautifully textured and soft with some warm-vintage ripeness on the close.

The 2009 Toscana is a highly attractive, juicy wine well suited to near-term drinking. It shows plenty of plump fruit in a soft, approachable style. Frescobaldi’s 2008 Tenuta di Castiglioni is a big, juicy wine endowed with tons of fruit. This blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 10% Sangiovese shows excellent balance, even if the tannins dry out just a touch on the finish.
