The top of the Kendall-Jackson pyramid, in terms of both price and quality, are the single-vineyard offerings. All of these wines performed well. The only disappointment is the 1996 Syrah Durell Vineyard. Some superb Syrahs have been produced from this vineyard, particularly by Edmunds St. John, but this offering lacks color, comes across as light to medium-bodied, is very oaky, in addition to being weak in varietal character.
