Confirming my early impressions, the 2001 Cabernet Franc 25th Anniversary (100% Cabernet Franc) is one of the most prodigious Cabernet Francs made in Napa Valley. Still extremely young, it reveals a dense, opaque purple color, a wonderful bouquet of graphite, spring flowers, tobacco leaf, blueberries, black raspberries and currants intermixed with a scent of ink. While drinkable because of supple tannins, it hints at even greater things to follow in another 5-6 years and should keep for 10-15 years thereafter. Michael Keenan has done an incredible job over the last decade, and his 2001s admirably demonstrate the fabulous potential of his wines.
