All of the Katnook Estate reds are strongly marked by oak, and the 2016 Amara Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is no exception. It's dry and dusty, with prominent cedar notes layered over cassis, cherry and earth. Medium-bodied, it still shows some drying wood tannins on the finish, so cellar it for a couple of years and then drink it over the next decade.

Medium to deep garnet/purple, the 2013 Amara Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon opens to aromas of crushed blackberries and a waft of black cherry intertwined with bay leaves, earth, marmite and menthol plus a touch of cedar. The taut, muscular palate is medium to full-bodied, has firm, grainy tannins and good length on the finish.

Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2012 Amara Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is scented of black and red currants, red plums and crushed blackberries with nuances of dried Mediterranean herbs, cigar box and pencil lead. Medium-bodied with a good concentration of youthful red and black fruit flavors, it has a prominent backbone of chewy tannins defining the long finish. Drink it now to 2019+. Deep garnet-purple in color, the single-vineyard 2010 Amara Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon has a youthfully mute nose of cassis, spearmint and crushed blackberry interwoven with hints of cedar, pencil lead and roses. This full-bodied and rich wine has excellent concentration, medium to firm, finely grained tannins and a crisp acid line running throughout. It finishes long and should age very well.
