Deep ruby-purple in the glass, the 2016 Zinfandel Cassata Vineyard opens with some reductive aromas that dissipate fairly quickly, segueing to peach and apricot jam, blackberry pie, sweet spices, pipe tobacco, turned earth, graphite and savory herbs with red fruit sparks. Full-bodied, it's dense and rich in the mouth with intense, minerally fruits, fine, grainy tannins and lip-smacking freshness, finishing very long. 240 cases produced.

Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2015 Zinfandel Cassata Vineyard opens with expressive kirsch, stewed plums and baked blackberry scents plus nuances of dried herbs, cardamom, cloves, incense and fertile soil. Full-bodied, rich and boldly fruited in the mouth, it has a grippy frame and just enough freshness to lift the spice-laced fruit to a nice long finish. 165 cases were made.

I tasted a half-dozen Zinfandel-based cuvées from Jeff Cohn – and all of them merit serious attention from wine consumers. The 2014 Zinfandel Cassata Vineyard is 75% Zinfandel and 25% Petite Sirah with 15% whole clusters. This is a killer Zinfandel with floral notes, loads of blackberry and blackcurrant fruit, medium to full-bodied and, somehow, hiding all of its high-octane 15.6% alcohol. Stunningly floral, rich, full-bodied and compelling, this is a stunner to drink over the next 7-8 years.

I had the pleasure of tasting two Zinfandels from Cohn. The 2013 Zinfandel Casssata Vineyard carries a Sonoma appellation and a bold 15.6% natural alcohol. A rich, black raspberry-scented nose, a full-bodied mouthfeel and delicious fruit-forward style is not going to make old bones, bur for drinking over the next 5-6 years, this is a sexy Zinfandel

The super-rich, nicely structured, pure, full-bodied, opulent 2012 Zinfandel Cassata Vineyard possesses a heady 15.6% alcohol. This dense purple-colored effort is as good as this varietal can be. Drink now-2022.
