The 2020 Santenay 1er Cru Le Beaurepaire Rouge has turned out brilliantly, bursting with aromas of plums, wild berries, vine smoke, orange zest and spices. Medium to full-bodied, supple and sensual, with a vibrant core of fruit that's framed by sweet, powdery tannins, it concludes with a long, sapid finish.

Mingling aromas of plums, peonies, raw coca, orange rind and spices, the 2019 Santenay 1er Cru Le Beaurepaire Rouge is medium to full-bodied, velvety and concentrated, its fleshy core of fruit framed by velvety tannins and girdled by succulent acids. This has turned out very well.

The 2018 Santenay 1er Cru Le Beaurepaire Rouge has also turned out beautifully, mingling aromas of ripe cherries, cocoa nib, sweet soil tones and spices in a complex bouquet. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and sensuous, its ample core of fruit is underpinned by lively acids and melting tannins. This is one of the most texturally refined wines in the range this year, but for all the early accessibility that conveys, it will age with grace.

Aromas of spicy cherry and berry fruit mingle with hints of raw cocoa, rich soil tones and spices, introducing the 2017 Santenay 1er Cru Le Beaurepaire Rouge. It's a medium to full-bodied, deep and nicely concentrated wine, with ripe and powdery tannins enveloped in fleshy fruit, concluding with a long, sapid finish.

Notes of sweet wild berries, dark chocolate and loamy soil introduce the 2016 Santenay 1er Cru Le Beaurepaire Rouge, a medium-bodied wine with a ripe core of fruit, tangy acids and youthfully chewy tannins. It's tighter-knit and more angular that I remember it from barrel, but perhaps it just needs some time.
