The Il Palazzone 2018 Brunello di Montalcino offers ripe fruit and lots of spice over an open-knit and accessible mouthfeel. Like some of the other wines from this vintage, this Brunello shows some evolution and a more oxidative approach that bodes well for near and medium-term drinking. It closes with sour cherry, black olive, grilled herb and toasted oak spice. Production is exactly 13,108 bottles.

The 2017 Brunello di Montalcino has some brambly fruit and forest floor with sweet tones of spice and spent ember. Overall, the aromas are subdued and not overdone, despite the riper fruit profile and concentration that was obtained in this vintage. Il Palazzone's wines all seem to have a savory comment that reminds me of mesquite or mahogany. Exactly 9,521 bottles are hitting the market now.

Il Palazzone's 2016 Brunello di Montalcino unfolds to light and crisp fruit with lots of wild cherry, rose and blue flower. This is a silky and medium-bodied red with lots of lifted energy and zest. This is a very lively wine. That lighter approach gives this wine a more immediate and accessible approach, and it would pair well with pork or lamb chops. It represents a blend of fruit from three vineyard sites. Production is exactly 12,692 bottles.

Il Palazzone's 2015 Brunello di Montalcino shows a steady bouquet that is equally represented by dried fruit aromas, medicinal herb and crushed stone or dark mineral. The wine imparts a lean to medium-weight texture, and there is a point of bitterness that recalls sour cherry or crispy plum. That sourness is for now reinforced by the wine's young tannins, and that general rawness should subside as it continues its evolution in the bottle. Some 10,866 bottles were filled (not counting 250 magnums), and the wine was released in January 2020.
