The 2006 Barossa Shiraz was sourced from 40+-year-old vines and aged in 50% new American oak. It is a glass-coating purple with a fragrant bouquet featuring violets, lavender, tobacco, bacon, blueberry, and a hint of chocolate. This is followed by a layered, opulent wine with mouth-filling flavors, excellent integration of oak, tannin, and acidity, and a long, pure finish. Drink it from 2012 to 2025. Owner/winemaker Ross Trimboli buys grapes from many regions with Kangaroo Island being the latest addition to the portfolio. Both offerings from the latter are from five-year-old vines but that youthfulness is not apparent on the palate.Importer: Dan Philips. The Grateful Palate, Oxnard, CA; tel. (805) 278-9095
