The dark brown NV Rich Old Oloroso VORS is not a dry wine (beware of words like rich on labels), as it is produced with 90% Palomino grapes and 10% Pedro Ximenez dehydrated under the sun, all of them from the Macharnudo vineyard in Jerez de la Frontera. The solera was created in 1909. The complex nose is redolent of dates, cloves, incense, herbs and roasted coffee. The palate shows very good balance between sweetness, acidity and a bitter touch, making it a serious wine. Drink 2013-2018.
Bodegas Harveys together with Bodegas Terry belongs to Beam Global, the giant spirits company that markets brands like Jim Beam or Courvoisier. The bodega was created in 1730, which should make it one of the oldest, if not the oldest in the Marco de Jerez. They are of course the ones responsible for the well-known brand Bristol Cream, the best known Cream in the world, and a great commercial success, mainly in the UK. They also market an impressive, not so well known range of very old Sherries, all qualified as VORS.
These wines are sold mostly in the UK, so prices are in Pounds Sterling. Imported in the UK by Maxxium; www.maxxium.com
