The 2006 ROM (YARDEN), a blend of 37% Syrah, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon and 29% Merlot, goes for the obvious, so it seems, with sweet oak (it was aged in French oak for 21 months) as well as ripe fruit nuances dominating the wine early on. That said, it has pretty good structure, with tannins providing some intensity and grip on the finish. After considerable aeration, there was some harshness going down, but to its credit, it was at least as interesting the next day as it was in its first hour. While I admired its good intentions and persistence, being open longer didn’t make me happier while drinking it. At this price level, it demands more enthusiasm. Expect more as time goes on with this project. Drink now-2018. There were 6,000 bottles produced, of which 2,000 were imported.Importer: Yarden, Inc., New York, N.Y.; tel: (212) 997-9463
