2021 was a lovely vintage in Barossa—cool, long and with a return to moderate yields after two years of aggressively low yields and warm conditions. So here, the 2021 Mother's Milk Shiraz is fine and detailed, with loads of plush, voluminous fruit, in keeping with the style of the wine, but it is imbued with a little extra focus and precision, courtesy of the vintage. Nicely done.

This is routinely good, and this year, the 2020 Mother's Milk Shiraz is creamy, sweet and plush. It doesn't have the textural hutzpah I was expecting, but some of the other First Drop reds have a profusion of oak, so it's nice to see it somewhat dialed down here. Cushioned, generous and red fruited.

Pure and vibrant black cherry, raspberry and pomegranate flavors are juicy and fresh, gaining complexity on the finish, where details of delicate white tea, cardamom, clove, salted black licorice and toasted cumin linger.
