The 2001 Corte d’Oro is made from Semillon and Sauvignon with noble rot. Landi works at several Italian estates with Denis Dubordieu of the University of Bordeaux, and it shows in the wine. Golden yellow with pineapple, melon, and vanilla notes on the nose and the herbs and cinders of pourriture noble, this Tuscan version of a Sauternes is ample, sweet, and complex, balanced and elegant; only a slight loss of momentum at the end – the grapes were from very young vines - prevents the score from going higher.
