My favorite of the Erath portfolio is the 2006 Pinot Noir Rocky Hill Vineyard from the Eola-Amity Hills AVA. It is entirely planted to the 115 clone. Medium ruby-colored with exceptionally fragrant spice notes, red and black fruits, and earthiness, the wine is layered, savory, and succulent with enough structure to evolve for 2-3 years. This wine is a single-vineyard selection aged for 14 months in 40% new French oak. It will be at its best from 2010 to 2018. Erath Winery is one of Oregon’s pioneers with its first vintage occurring in 1972. Dick Erath sold the winery to Ste. Michelle Wine Estates recently but remains the largest grower for the winery (which owns no vineyards). Current production is at 125,000 cases with the Oregon Pinot Noir bottling accounting for almost two-thirds of that total.www.erath.com
