The 2008 Carmignano from Pierazzuoli is a big, hearty red packed with dark fruit. Hints of tobacco, earthiness and smoke add complexity, although some rough contours remain, especially on the finish. The Carmignano is 80% Sangiovese and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2016.
