The 2021 Manga del Brujo is an unoaked red blend produced with 75% old-vine Garnacha, 10% Syrah, 10% Bobal (instead of the Tempranillo used before) and 5% Mazuelo (Cari?ena), and they feel that it's more Calatayud that way. It's primary and fruit-driven, their more exported wine, an all-road wine, with concentration, freshness, sous bois and a little of an homage to Chateauneuf with an Aragón twist. It's not a shy red at 14.75% alcohol, but it goes unnoticed. Very tasty. There are around 70,000 bottles in three of four bottlings from a single master blend kept in underground concrete that is very stable. Superb value.

The 2020 Manga del Brujo is an unoaked red blend produced with 70% old-vine Garnacha, 15% Syrah, 10% Bobal (instead of the Tempranillo used before) and 5% Mazuelo (Cari?ena). It fermented and matured exclusively in epoxy-lined concrete tanks. It has an expressive nose, with abundant notes of aromatic herbs and the approachability of the 2020s. The texture felt softer (is it the Bobal?), and it's ripe (15% alcohol), juicy and with volume and concentration, more extraction than Papa Luna, a bit more serious. The final blend was waiting for the bottles, and there was enough wine to fill some 90,000 bottles that should get bottled from October–November 2021. They produced this wine in 2018 but skipped 2019, so 2020 will be the next vintage.

The 2017 Manga del Brujo is an unoaked red blend produced with 75% old-vine Garnacha, 15% Syrah, 10% Tempranillo and 5% Mazuelo. It fermented and matured in epoxy-linen for 15 to 18 months, depending on the lot. I tasted from the second bottling from December 2019. The aromas go more in the direction of red fruit and some more Mediterranean herbs compared with the Papa Luna, the other red I tasted from the same vintage and a similar price. This has more finesse, fine tannins and integrated acidity. Most of these reds are bottled with a high level of dissolved gas, a way to keep the wine and preserve it in the bottle; it keeps the wine fresh. This is a very good 2017, fresher than many. Total production was 60,000 bottles, down in this low-yielding year.

Like many 2015s, the 2015 Manga del Brujo, a blend of 75% old vine Garnacha with 15% Syrah, 10% Tempranillo and 5% Mazuelo, reached close to 15% alcohol. It fermented in concrete vats where it matured for 20 months. Here, Robertson looks for a more savory style with firmer tannins through the Tempranillo and the use of extended maceration and extra skins (doble pasta) of Garnacha and Syrah. It shows the ripe and juicy style of the vintage with a round palate and some earthy tannins, a little meatier perhaps from the Tempranillo. One for the table. There were 100,000 bottles produced and it was bottled in September of 2018.

The 2014 Manga del Brujo is mostly Garnacha with about 15% Syrah, 10% Tempranillo and 5% Mazuelo fermented in concrete tanks and aged mostly in concrete, but some of the components of the blend aged in oak barrels. 2014 was a balanced year, with good ripeness without excess. It has a young nose with floral hints and a touch of orange peel. It should develop more complexity in the bottle, as I saw tasting this next to the 2013. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, good freshness and acidity, supple and tasty, ending with some meaty, almost salty flavors. Some 100,000 bottles produced.
