The dark ruby/purple-hued 2005 Syrah Bassetti Vineyard exhibits a superficial freshness of red currant and blackberry fruit, but is one-dimensional and superfluous in the mouth. Although well-made, it is a medium weight, innocuous effort, an adjective I would never have applied to an Edmunds St. John wine made in the early and mid-1990s.Tel. The dense ruby/purple-tinged 2003 Syrah Bassetti Vineyard exhibits wild blackberry and mountain fruit aromas along with a hint of flowers, medium to full body, good texture, and a certain firmness as well as austerity.
