This cuvee was bottled only in magnum (the only time Guigal has ever produced a wine in this format) as a special commemorative wine to honor his father. Made from a parcel of vines in La Pommiere, this is a majestic, dense, smoky, cassis-scented wine that has enormous extract, an opaque purple color, and a knockout nose of jammy black fruit. An extremely full-bodied Cote Rotie with an exceptional sweetness of fruit (from ripeness, not sugar), this rarity is largely of academic interest because of the microscopic production. Anticipated maturity: 1999-2015. Last tasted 8/96.
