I think a step up over the 2014, the 2013 Gigondas is made from 70% Grenache, 25% Syrah and 5% Mourvedre. Coming from miniscule yields on the order of 14-17 hectoliter per hectare, it was aged primarily in large oak tanks with 20% in concrete. Its dark ruby/semi opaque color is followed by classic, Provencal notes of darker currants and plummy fruit, black pepper, wild herbs and crushed rock. These give way to a medium-bodied, fresh, lively and classically styled Gigondas that has high quality tannin, solid mid-palate depth and a great finish. It will be better in a year or two and drink nicely through 2025.
