Deep and complete, Coche's 2020 Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières unwinds in the glass with aromas of crisp Anjou pear, orange oil, honeysuckle, freshly baked bread, nutmeg, toasted sesame and iodine. Medium to full-bodied, its satiny attack segues into an ample, fleshy mid-palate that's girdled by racy acids and chalky structuring extract, concluding with a long, saline finish. Uniting texture and tension to compelling effect, this contemporary classic is the quintessential Genevrières.

The 2017 Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières bursts from the glass with aromas of green pear, citrus oil, fresh peach, hazelnuts, pastry cream and nutmeg. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, satiny and enveloping, with an expansive and textural attack that segues into a racy, tensile core, concluding with a beautifully precise, mineral finish. This is a tour de force Genevrières that will be worth every effort to track down.

The 2016 Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières was somewhat protected from the frosts by some early morning cloud cover, and the resulting wine is superb, offering up aromas of green orchard fruit, citrus zest, hazelnut cream, blanched almonds and drawn butter. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, broad and satiny, with excellent depth and dimension, tangy acids and chewy structuring extract, displaying appreciably more amplitude and volume than the Caillerets and Rougeots that preceded it. Elegant but powerful, this is a beautiful Genevrières.

This was my first encounter with Coche-Dury's 2015 Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières, a wine that hails from one of the domaine's smallest parcels and which is often among the riper, more textural wines in the portfolio. Bursting from the glass with an expressive bouquet of citrus oil, Anjou pear, green apple, sesame oil, hazelnuts and a classy framing of new oak, the wine is medium to full-bodied, satiny and layered, with a deep and multidimensional core, racy acids and a long, elegantly toasty finish. While age will bring more integration and complexity, I confess that even at this early stage, the wine is so compelling that I finished my glass with no difficulty.

The 2013 Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières is still a few years from its peak, but it is beginning to unwind very nicely and offer quite stylish drinking. Offering up a beautifully integrated bouquet of Anjou pear and crisp yellow orchard fruit, framed by hints of fresh bread, sesame and hazelnut, it's medium to full-bodied, seamless and elegantly textural, with racy acids, fine depth at the core and an attractive sense of completeness. It isn't the most concentrated or structured Coche Genevrières, but it's a charming middleweight that represents a superb effort in a challenging growing season.
