The 2014 Morellino di Scansano Riserva Madrechiesa is an elaborate and beautifully made wine that also shows more vintage influence compared to Terenzi's other new releases (including the lower-end wines) from 2014. This was not an easy growing season, and the wine pinches out in terms of intensity and persistency as a result. The bouquet is austere, more closed and less fruit-driven overall. It offers savory tones with dried cherry and pressed blackberry.

Terenzi is among a new generation of very exciting wine estates located in Maremma, Tuscany. The 2013 Morellino di Scansano Riserva Madrechiesa is a light and delicate red wine that shows finessed aromas of wild berry, balsam herb, blue flower and button mushroom. This wine does not have the driving sense of power and depth that we saw in 2010. Instead, this edition is less formal overall and boasts an easier, more approachable drinking style. That Sangiovese acidity comes out nicely on the finish.

The 2010 Morellino di Scansano Riserva Madrechiesa is definitely a wine you should buy if you love Sangiovese. This is a very special wine with a unique set of aromas that beautifully reflect the wild and untamed Scansano area of southern Tuscany. Bramble and Mediterranean herb appear at the outset and give the wine prickly definition and sharpness. Those herbal notes are followed by softer tones of cherry and spice. This is not a banal wine. In fact, it shows a fluid evolution as it warms in the glass. I'd be curious to taste it in five year's time.
