The NV Garnacha Solera 1926, a fortified wine (20% alcohol) produced with Garnacha (red?) with 190 grams of residual sugar, shows a brown color and a captivating nose mixing aromas of burnt sugar, roasted nuts, curry, nutmeg and pepper, sweet vanilla, candied orange rind and sweet fruit reminiscent of a dense, old Tawny Port. The palate is full-bodied, unctuous, with pungent flavors increased by the alcohol and a sweet sensation well balanced with acidity, harmonious and elegant, which make it very pleasant and easy to drink. Sip after a meal and experiment with blue cheese or dark chocolate desserts. This wine should be indestructible. Only 600 bottles are withdrawn from the solera every year. Drink now-2030.
De Muller was created in 1851. They might be better known by their Mas wine and as suppliers of the Vatican, but I asked to taste the traditional rancio and fortified wines, all of them from a mixture of vintages in the solera system that were outstanding. I was not surprised because I already knew them, but wanted to recommend them to you.
