The 2005 Merlot “Meron Vineyard” is yet another flamboyant wine. It is too sweet, laden with kirsch notes, quite candied and cloying. The flavors seem artificial. I couldn’t help thinking, admittedly with some exaggeration, that this wouldn’t be too out of place as a Passover wine, in the worst sense of that phrase. In many respects, it seems like a caricature of a Merlot. Drink now-2012. Dalton’s wines have one thing in common – flamboyance. They tend to have an obvious sweetness that seems eccentric at times.
