A 100% expression of Petit Verdot, the 2019 Ferro shows a black, almost purplish appearance with a very solid wall of black fruit, ink, rum cake and black licorice. This is a super impenetrable wine that packs a powerful punch. I imagine that its incredible concentration is almost capable of staining your hands if you spill the wine. The mouthfeel gracefully pulls back to a place of elegance and subtle restraint. This wine shows power, but it also shows balance. Production is 6,000 bottles.

This is a bold and thickly layered Tuscan expression of Petit Verdot that would stand up to a tall cut of grilled steak. The Collazzi 2016 Ferro (with just 6,000 bottles made) offers dark plum and dried blackberry with spicy tones of nutmeg and smoked spice. That spiciness is not overdone, and the wine reveals a medium-weight approach that allows for your food flavors to shine through the denser parts of this wine, Ferro, named after the Italian word for iron.

The 2015 Ferro opens to a rich and darkly concentrated appearance. The bouquet here shows lots of red fruit with dark spice and cinnamon. There is too much oak here for my taste. It almost tastes bitter, but yet there is sweetness on the close as well. This is a bold, almost robust wine that appears even more exaggerated in a hot vintage such as 2015.

The 2011 Ferro is a monumental wine with a thick, dark appearance and ripe fruit aromas that reflect the hot growing conditions of the 2011 vintage. The oak influences are very strong in this wine and they do take away from the sincerity of the fruit on hand. Dark spice is followed by cigar box, blackberry preserves, cinnamon and crushed clove. The wine is thickly layered with firm tannins at the back. Ferro means "iron" in Italian and this wine does indeed wield an iron fist.
