The 1997 Rosso Pecino Il Grifoni (a blend of Montepulciano, Sangiovese, and Cabernet Sauvignon) may be outstanding. It offers an opaque ruby/purple color as well as a gorgeously sweet bouquet of black currants, cherry liqueur, fresh almonds, and minerals. Medium to full-bodied and well-made, with sweet tannin, spicy, ripe, concentrated fruit, excellent purity, and a long finish, it should drink well for 7-8 years.
