The outstanding, deep ruby/purple-colored 1998 Il Grifoni (a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, and Montepulciano aged in small barrels) offers a sweet bouquet of black fruits, damp earth, spice box, dried herbs, and compost. With great fruit, supple tannin, and a nicely layered, rich, concentrated finish, this dense, impressive Italian red will drink well for 5-7 years.
