The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon reveals plenty of Sonoma County Cabernet structure. Firm tannins support an expressive core of blackberries, cassis, menthol, graphite and minerals. The 2009 needs another year or two to soften, but it is highly intriguing. The 2009 is 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, 3% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot drawn from vineyards in Knights Valley, Alexander Valley, Sonoma Valley and Dry Creek Valley. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2021. This is a fabulous set of wines from Chateau St. Jean, winemaker Margo Van Staaveren and her team. From top to bottom, these wines deliver tons of value and character.Tel. (707) 833-4134, www.chateaustjean.com
