The Fonsalette-Cuvee Syrah is perhaps Reynaud's best kept secret. His Syrah vineyard is a product of cuttings made in the Hermitage vineyard of Gerard Chave.
The 1990 is black in color, with an extraordinary perfume of hickory wood, chocolate, cassis, and other black fruits. In the mouth, there is staggering richness, astonishing opulence, plenty of alcohol, and gobs of tannin. The overall impression is one of massiveness and completeness. I am still waiting for the 1978 to reach full maturity, so I suspect this wine will need at least 10 years of cellaring to reach its zenith .
