Named after the first president of the Tain cooperative back in the 1930s, this wine comes from the 50 acres of vineyards controlled by the co-op on the Hermitage hill. It is a big, brooding wine with classic tannins and appetizing rich, juicy black fruits. Wood flavors are very apparent, but not dominant, with fruit tannins getting the upper edge. It could age well for 12–15 years before maturity. ——R.V.(6/1/2002)—— 90
