The 2001 Chianti Classico Riserva Guarnellotto is obviously of an entirely different caliber than the regular bottling, fleshy and firm with sweet red berry fruit, fine length, and an expanding density on the finish. Drink: 2006-2014. Castello di San Sano, a substantial property, extends over a high plateau between Castello di Ama and San Felice in Gaiole in Chianti. There has long been considerable potential here, but the vineyards were in very poor shape when the estate was purchased 15 years ago. Replanting, investment, and the informed work of consulting oenologist Beppe Caviola have done the rest, and these first releases with the San Sano label are an impressive group.Importer: Five Star Imports, Plainview, NY; tel.
