The 2002 La Renoux includes 54% Shiraz with the balance Bordeaux varietals (24% Merlot and 22% Cabernet Sauvignon). Attractive leathery, earthy, black currant, herb, licorice, and vanilla characteristics are found in the elegant, medium-bodied red. The finish reveals a slight degree of austerity. A new offering, the 2001 La Renoux is a blend of 45% Shiraz (vinified and aged in American oak), 38% Merlot, and 17% Cabernet Sauvignon (both aged in French wood). This stylish, medium to full-bodied, saturated ruby/purple-colored offering displays excellent density and ripeness as well as good integration of oak. It is built more along the lines of an exuberant Bordeaux than a typical Barossa Valley Grenache or Shiraz. Consume it over the next 10-12 years.
