The serious, Amarone-styled 2001 Monastrell is a dense purple-colored effort displaying notes of barbecue spice intermixed with melted road tar, licorice, and blackberry liqueur. This full-bodied, sweet, thick 2001 boasts tremendous intensity and purity as well as that wonderful taste of chocolate-covered figs. Drink it over the next 4-5 years, although I suspect it will last longer.
