The 2005 Carramimbre Crianza is 90% Tempranillo and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon aged for 15 months in one-third new French and American oak. It offers up a smoky, toasty bouquet with notes of pencil lead, tobacco, and black cherry. Structured and dense on the palate, it has plenty of savory fruit, good depth, and enough ripe tannin to evolve for another 2-3 years. It should be at its best from 2011 to 2020. The 2004 Crianza was aged in 33% new oak for 12 months. This purple-colored, glass-coating wine is more marked by its oak treatment. It exhibits aromas of wood smoke, pencil lead, mineral, black currant, and blackberry. It nicely conceals enough tannin to evolve for several more years.
