This blows away the majority of California Merlots retailing for two or three times as much. Dried herbs accent creamy mocha and black cherries in a supple, harmonious whole that’s as true to the variety as can be. This Merlot is quite dark, with plentiful black plum, anise and toasty oak aromas and flavors. Medium-weight and nicely balanced, it’s smooth and jammy, yet avoids the sweet or candied quality of so many warm-climate wines.
