The 2006 Tempranillo Reserva has a classical bouquet of dried flowers and red fruits, and a palate with a slightly drying finish, a common feature in many 2006 reds. There is fantastic fruit here, but I feel the vintage marked the wines, which didn’t fully absorb the effect of the elevage (18 months in barrel). You’ll need a powerful stew or something like that to compensate for the tannins in the wine. Drink 2014-2018.
Amaren is the sister winery of Luis Canas, born in 1995 as a brand, and in 2009 as a separate winery, where a more modern/premium line of wines from the Canas family is produced. They own 52 hectares of vineyards averaging 50 years of age, and total production is 180,000 bottles per year.
