Against all odds, the 2011 PV is not produced with Petit Verdot, but with Syrah. The wine feels oaky and smoky, with notes of cured meat, bacon and hints of tar and tapenade. But the problem seems to be the 14 months aging in new oak, which provided the wine with an overdose of drying tannins that rather than enhancing the pleasant aspects, ends up making it difficult to drink. A shame. Drink 2015-2018.
