The deep purple-colored 2006 Foster Limited Edition is 100% Malbec sourced from 55- and 92-year-old vineyards, with aging in 100% new French oak for 15 months. It delivers an already complex aromatic array of toasty oak, earthy minerals, Asian spices, incense, lavender, and black cherry. Velvety-textured, succulent, and fleshy, it can be approached now but conceals enough structure to evolve for another 3-4 years. Optimum drinking will be from 2013 to 2021. The 2005 Limited Edition Malbec was blended from two vineyards, 53 years and 90 years of age respectively. It was aged for 16 months in new French oak. Deep purple-colored, it has an expressive bouquet of toasty new oak, leather, underbrush, black cherry, and plum that jumps from the glass. Medium-bodied with a sense of elegance, this Malbec has layers of savory black cherry fruit, plenty of spice notes, good integration of oak, tannin, and acidity, and a 45-second, pure finish. Give it 3-4 years of additional cellaring and drink it from 2013 to 2025. Bodega Enrique Foster’s first vintage was 2002. The winery’s estate vineyard was planted in 1919. They lease a vineyard planted in 1955, and their Lunlunta property was planted in 1968. The 2004 Malbec Limited Edition was aged for 15 months in new French oak. It was the product of a cooler year and shows a bit of mint and pepper in its nose. It is a more structured effort with good depth, plenty of spicy, black cherry fruit, excellent balance, and a fruit-filled finish. Cellar it for four years and drink it from 2012 to 2025.
