The 2009 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Vasari is a juicy wine packed with dark red fruit. It offers good value in an approachable style meant for near-term drinking. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2013. This is a solid set of wines from Barba. As is often the case in the south, the lower-end wines deliver more bang for the buck than the more expensive selections. Barba’s 2008 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Vasari is an attractive, mid-weight red with a vinous, fresh personality and good overall length. The 2008 is a touch compact, but that is a small criticism at this price point. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2013. These new releases from Barba point to important strides in quality. Barba’s 2006 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Vasari is a delicious wine packed with ripe black fruit. Made in a full-bodied, generous style, it is sure to offer much pleasure over the next year or two.
