This is 100% Syrah is quite ripe, with alcohol at 15.6%; yet not over-ripe or raisiny. Rather, the fruit is like a blackberry compote, concentrated and bursting with the essence of berries and a pleasing pastry note. The 2005 Syrah (45 cases), sourced from two vineyards, is 100% varietal. This purple-colored wine offers up smoky, meaty, blueberry aromas leading to an uncomplicated but thick and rich, full-flavored wine that is seamless and hedonistically styled. Drink it over the next 5-7 years. Animale is a tiny, 150-case winery that began operations in 2001. Their website proudly proclaims it to be a no-holds-barred winery where power and flavor are paramount. Based on the two wines I tasted, Animale appears to be a goal-oriented enterprise. Tel.
