The 2008 Petite Sirah from Ancient Peaks is a dark, juicy offering bursting with black fruit, smoke, scorched earth and crushed rocks. It shows terrific density and muscle, with firm tannins that support the fruit through to the finish. Quite characteristically for young Petite Sirah, the tannins remain a touch prominent and need further bottle age to soften. Super-ripe plums and cassis wrap around the intense, brooding finish. The blend includes 15% Syrah, and the wine spent 24 months in French oak barrels. The 50% new barrels are very nicely integrated. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2018+. Tel.
