Medium to deep ruby, the 2015 Zinfandel Sin Zin features bright red cherries, blackberries, dried citrus peel and flowers with accents of dusty earth, exotic spices and stone fruits. Medium to full-bodied, it's perfumed in the mouth with soft tannins and mouthwatering acidity, finishing lifted. 4,620 cases produced.

The 2013 Zinfandel Sin Zin, which is 99% Zinfandel and 1% Petite Sirah, again shows the peppery, spicy Zinfandel character, with earthiness and a touch of barbecue spices in a ripe, medium-bodied, generously endowed, fruit-driven style.

Slightly less concentrated and savory, but still meritorious is the 2012 Sin Zin, a broad, round, juicy Zinfandel revealing lots of briery, brambleberry fruit, good pepper and spice, soft tannins and 14.7% alcohol. Drink it over the next 3-4 years.

The 2010 Sin Zin is about as good a bottle of California wine as readers will find for the money. Juicy, rich and varietally expressive, the 2010 impresses for its balance, especially at this price point. Juicy red cherries, tobacco, flowers and mint linger on the expressive, layered finish. Alexander Valley Vineyards has also done an outstanding job with Zinfandel. Their well-known, highly popular 2009 Sin Zin (a 20,000 case blend of 98.4% Zinfandel and 1.6% Petite Sirah) was aged 10 months in American wood, although the oak is by no means an obvious component. Lots of brambleberry and black cherry fruit intermixed with pepper, licorice and a hint of roasted herbs are present in this spicy, medium-bodied, lush, silky Zinfandel.
