The 2010 Vinya Laia, a blend of 65% Garnacha, 20% Carinena and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon from 32-year-old vines on dry, calcareous soils, goes through malolactic in barrel and aging for 11 months in Allier French oak. It has a ripe, lively bouquet of raspberry, blackberry, melted tar and dried herbs that handles the oak very well. The palate is medium-bodied with some hardness on the entry, although the back palate offers fleshier fruit thanks to the ripe Garnacha. It is rustic but pleasurable. Drink now.
Albet I Noya is based at the 13th century Can Vendrell de la Codina estate, where since 1903, four generations of the Albet family have made wine. Of the 122 hectares, 76 hectares are under vine on the western slopes of the Ordal mountain range. There is a strong sense of organic farming here, presciently incepted by Josep Maria Albet I Noya way back in 1978.
