The 2017 Vosne-Romanée offers up aromas of plums, spices and dried flowers, followed by a medium-bodied, supple and satiny palate, open-knit in profile and framed by light structuring tannins, concluding with a somewhat fleeting finish.

The 2016 Vosne Romanee was picked on 29 September, blended with 30% whole bunch and 40% new oak barrels. It has a pure, floral bouquet with attractive blueberry and cassis fruit complementing the strawberry aromas. The palate is smooth and rounded on the entry. Maybe I would have just dialed down the new oak a little as it has a loud voice toward the finish, but it feels harmonious and sensual, which is what you want from a Vosne-Romanée.

The 2015 Vosne Romanee has a light-hearted, almost nonchalant bouquet with perfumed red cherry and mulberry fruit, well defined and quite intense. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, fine acidity, just a little hardness towards the finish, although that will dissipate by the time this is in bottle. For a village cru this is perfectly satisfying.

The 2014 Vosne Romanée (Domaine du Clos Frantin) has a pretty, light red cherry and raspberry-scented bouquet. The palate is sweet on the entry with fleshy red fruit, simple but balanced with an easy drinking, slightly pointed finish.

From two lieux-dits in equal proportion, the 2013 Vosne-Romanée has a simple but pure bouquet with clean raspberry and cranberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, well-judged acidity and more “Pinot Noir” expression than the Clos des Marechaudes ‘13s tasted prior to it. Fine.
