Tasted next to the 1959 at Anthony Barton's extravagant vertical tasting at the International Wine Center in New York City, it was hard to pick which wine was the best. The 1959 perhaps was more alcoholic, but the 1961 was filled with a richly scented smell of cedar, oak, vanillin, and ripe fruit. On the palate, the rich, round, sweet, ripe fruitiness of the vintage was capably displayed. Fully mature. Anticipated maturity: Now-may be in decline. Last tasted, 10/82.
