The 1995 Zinfandel Especial (14.6% alcohol) is a distinctively spicy, peppery Zin without the sweet fruit of its two predecessors. It reveals an evolved medium ruby/garnet color, a soft, straightforward palate, adequate acidity, and moderate weight. It is the least concentrated and color saturated Peachy Canyon Zinfandel I have tasted over recent years. Drink it over the next 2-3 years. One of my favorite Zinfandel producers, Peachy Canyon has turned in a bevy of wines that are good, but well-below the high quality of previous vintages. However, the wines, with their angular personalities, are typical for the vintage, with less glycerin and extraction, yet more acidity. In spite of the high alcohol, the wines are not comparable to the intense richness of fruit found in such vintages as 1994, 1993, 1992, 1991, and 1990.
