The 1997 Lagrein of this house was perhaps the finest I have ever tasted, but the 2000 Lagrein Berger-Gei is not far behind. Powerful and expressive on the nose, broad, concentrated, and solid on the palate, it expresses all the blackberry fruit, the minerality, the tar, and the roots and tree bark which the soils of Gries confer upon serious examples of the wine. Drink: 2005-2015.
