The Cheval Blanc of Australia may be Frankland Estate’s Olmo’s Reward. The 2002 is a Bordeaux-like blend of 49% Cabernet Franc, 43% Merlot, and the rest Petit Verdot, Malbec, and Cabernet Sauvignon. It reveals remarkable finesse and elegance along with a beautiful nose of menthol, blueberries, raspberries, crushed rocks, and flowers. Dense and rich, with an intensity and power that build incrementally, this is an impressive, exceptionally elegant, French-styled red to consume over the next decade.
