One of the most intriguing wines from Frankland Estate is their Bordeaux look-alike, the 1997 Cabernet Franc/Merlot blend (a touch of Petit Verdot, Malbec, and Cabernet Sauvignon are also in the mix) called Olmo's Reward. This classy, graceful offering exhibits notes of chocolate, cedar wood, menthol, spice box, and red and black fruits. The attack is savory, the mid-palate medium-bodied and moderately tannic, and the finish complex and long. The wine is accessible, but made in a restrained, medium-weight style that is totally unusual for Australia. Drink it over the next decade.
