The 2001 Borsao Tres Picos, a 5,000-case offering, is Agricola de Borja's top cuvee (packaged in a heavy bottle). It is produced from 100% old vine, mountain-grown Garnacha (Grenache), from yields of less than two tons of fruit per acre. This is a muscular, high acid, medium to full-bodied offering with impressive extract and richness. Give it another 2-4 months to fully open, and drink it over the following 5-6 years. The wine possesses intense raspberry and cherry fruit. It is a remarkable value for $10!
One of the world's greatest value-priced wineries, Agricola de Borja's offerings are made in stainless steel and bottled early to preserve their vivid fruit. The low-yielding, concentrated 2001 vintage has produced wines with more muscle, depth, and acidity than usual.
