An offshoot of Mulderbosch, Kanu sources their 2007 Chenin Blanc largely from mature, dry-farmed, head-pruned vines. Sophistication of harvesting and vinification is evident in this wine’s ability to retain clarity and freshness and offer luscious melony fruit laced with pungent herbs, cress, and citrus zest but without treading too bitter a finishing path. I found this rather Sauvignon-like, a feature to which its 10% Sauvignon and 2% Viognier might be contributing. (I found Kanu’s late-harvested Chenin overly candied and unconvincing.)Importer: Cape Classics, New York, NY; tel. (212) 686-1300
