The Raquillet 2006 Mercurey Les Vasees displays more finesse and lift but a comparable combination of textural polish with cut to that of the corresponding Vieilles Vignes bottling. Pungent herbal, tomato foliage, and citrus oil notes in the nose migrate to the palate where the tart edge of red currant and cherry helps convey a sense of invigoration, while wet stone and meat stock underpinning lend depth perspective and density. This admirably-proportioned Pinot should be worth following for 3-4 years.
